Thank you for joining us. In this video we will be presenting a flat renovation project carried by Sigma Builders in West London. The aim was to completely revamp this run-down property, and create a modern, functional home for a young couple. The video will demonstrate how we turned an ex-council flat into a luxury apartment situated in London’s Maida Vale district.
First, the flat was completely gutted. The layout of the rooms was reconfigured in order to create a living area that is both comfortable and enjoyable, while simultaneously maximizing space.
Partition walls were knocked out to enlarge the bathroom and kitchen. A new toilet was also added. This structural work was carried under the supervision of a structural engineer. A new central heating system was installed, including a combi-boiler. The flat was then completely re-wired. Our clients had originally planned to have an entirely white space in the living room, but later decided to decorate one of the walls with the latest brown leather wallpaper effect. In the living room and bedrooms we laid antique oak flooring. Storage cabinets and shelving were designed and constructed inside chimney alcoves. Our clients opted for a hi-tech “smart house” so that they could control the music, heating, lights and TV from an iPhone.
A computer-generated 3D model of the kitchen was constructed so that we could maximise space by pre-visualising the room, and make sure in advance that everything matched our clients’ expectations. The kitchen is simple but well designed. The sink has plenty of space for preparing food, and extra room was allocated for a rectangular dining table to be put next to the wall.
Glossy white wooden surfaces with black stone tiling lend contrast to the kitchen and provide a slick, modern look. Underfloor heating was fitted to insure a cosy home. Suspended ceilings were installed to create extra space for spotlights, and additional down lights were fitted underneath the wall-mounted units to brighten up the worktops. Modern kitchen appliances were concealed inside the base cabinets to create a seamless, high-gloss surface throughout.
White horizontal radiators were installed in all the rooms, followed by four hardwood panel fireproof doors in compliance with current building regulations. These classic doors combine simplicity and style: they were chosen by our clients, and decorated by Sigma Builders. The walls and ceiling were plastered and decorated to the highest standard.
The bathroom was tiled with black porcelain and mosaic tiles, together with an extra-wide bespoke basin sitting on top of a cabinet extending from wall to wall, creating plenty of storage space. We also added extra mirrors to give the bathroom some extra sparkle.
