Most people don’t spend a great deal of time thinking about Choosing a Right Toilet for your Bathroom.  It’s one of those elements in the bathroom that, although the most necessary component of the room for obvious reasons, most homeowner don’t spend a huge amount of time considering until a replacement is needed or until the bathroom is being remodeled.  There are many things to consider that bathroom fitters will discuss with homeowners who need to select a toilet.

• The first thing that must be identified before even considering the type, color, or style is the “Rough in” size.  This is the distance between the walls where the toilet sits and the middle of the rear holes for the bolts in the toilet that are on each side of the sewer drain.  This is important because there are three basic “Rough in” sizes of 10, 12, or 14 inch and the right size determine if the toilet’s tank fits flush to the wall or has an ugly gap.

• The next aspect to be considered is whether the toilet will be a wall hung toilet or a back to the wall toilet.  Wall hung toilets are not as popular in America as they are in Europe, but they take less room, and they are more aesthetic that the floor mounted, plus there’s no base to clean around.  Also the water tank is hidden inside the wall and there are no visible pipes.

• A back to the wall toilet takes less space and the plumbing and cistern are hidden in the wall, also making them aesthetically attractive.  It sits flush on the bathroom wall making it modern and very easy to clean. 
• Another aspect that bathroom fitters will help with the toilet installation is the size and shape of the toilet.  Most toilets have a height of 14 inches, and can be an elongated bowl or a round bowl.   Be aware that some newer toilets are taller and take somewhat more space height-wise.  If space is a major factor, the round bowls save around two inches in the front of the bowl. 

• One factor to be considered when the homeowner is going to install new toilet is the flushing system.  The two types are pressure assisted and gravity-fed.  Pressure assisted has a container in the tank holding compressed air that when flushed the water is projected from the container at higher pressure to the bottom of the bowl forcing everything into the trap.  Gravity-fed are the traditional models where the tank’s water pushes down and combines with gravity forcing everything into the trap.

• Another factor of toilet installation is whether a one piece, two piece or the more modern styles that come in different styles and colors.  White two piece models are the most common and least expensive.  There are colored models that, like t two piece models, are more expensive.
